This application allows the user to select one or more orderable tests, from the list of orderable tests defined in the RCPA SPIA eRequesting Terminology Set, and generate both the HL7 v2 Order message and the corresponding Request Form as a PDF document.

The generated HL7 v2 message is expected to conform to the expectations of the RCPA SPIA Guidelines for eRequesting, the Australian Diagnostics and Referral Messaging - Localisation of HL7 Version 2.4 Standard (ADRM-2021.1) and the National Pathology Accreditation Advisory Council's Requirements for information communication and reporting, (Fifth Edition) (NPAAC RICR5) Standard. The generated message will not necessarily be a useful message from the perspective of any particular receiving system. See References for links to NPAAC RCIR5, RCPA SPIA and ADRM 2021.1 Standard materials.

NOTE: The "Orderable Tests" list may contain duplicate RCPA Preferred Terms (P) or duplicate RCPA Synonyms (S) for different SNOMED CT codes. "Tree Pollen Allergen" is a primary example. To see the details of the orderable test, to be able to choose the right test, hover the pointer over the test name in the "Orderable Tests" list. Similarly, hover the pointer over the test name in the "Ordered Tests" list to see details of the "ordered" test.

Select a Pathology Discipline from the list to filter the list of Orderable Tests to just these for the selected discipline. Selecting "All disciplines" will clear the discipline filter and reset the list to include all orderable tests which are not otherwise filtered by the Test Name filter or the Top 50 filter, and which are not already in the Ordered Tests list.

Checking the "Top 50" checkbox will limit the list of Orderable Tests to these that are defined by the RCPA for the ADHA as Top 50 priority tests to be adopted nationally. Please note that the RCPA Preferred Term text is highlighted in bold typeface by the corresponding RCPA Synonym text is not. Any tests that are selected before checking the "Top 50" checkbox and that are not in the top 50 list will still remain in the ordered list.

Start typing a part of the name of the Orderable Test, or the leading 4 or more digits of the SNOMED code, in the text entry box to filter the Orderable Tests list to just the rows containing the specified text in the name or whose SNOMED code starts with the specified digits. Regardless of what you type, the filter will only include letters, digits and spaces, ignoring all other characters, if any, both in the provided search text and in the names of Orderable Test, before comparing them. The result will also be affected by the selection of in the Pathology Discipline menu and the state of the "Top 50" checkbox.

The list of orderable tests includes both the RCPA Preferred Terms and the RCPA Synonyms, if any. Whether the preferred term or the synonym is selected for inclusion in the order, the preferred term will be shown in the Ordered Tests list. The user will have an opportunity to choose a synonym to be used in the generated message when setting order options.

Click on a test name in the Orderable Tests list to select and move it to the Ordered Tests list. Click on the name in the Ordered Test list to remove it and make it again available for selection on the Orderable Tests list.

Clicking the "Set Order Options" button will bring up a dialog box which allows the user to change certain aspects of the message to be generated. If there are RCPA Synonyms defined for the selected test then the user will be able to choose one of the synonyms to use in the generated message instead of the default RCPA Preferred Term. Similarly, if there are multiple specimen names defined for the selected test then the user will be able to choose one of the specimen names to use in the generated message instead of the default specimen name (the first or only specimen in the list of defined specimen names).

Names of the Orderable Tests are sourced from the RCPA SPIA-provided MS Excel spreadsheet, see References, column "A", "RCPA Preferred Term".

Selecting one of the options in the "Message Type" menu will cause the generated message and the PDF Request form to include either the absolute minimum content that is required by the NPAAC RICR5 Requirements, the ADRM 2021.1 Standard and the RCPA SPIA Guidelines for e-Requesting to produce a valid HL7 v2 Orders message, which is the default, or the default content as well as the additional content required by the selected receiving system variant supported by the generator which will also produce a valid message. Changing the selection will require that the message and the PDF are generated anew to include the changed content.

NoteThe generated message will be valid a valid HL7 v2.4 Orders message according to the expectations of the names requirement, standards and guidelines. The message will not necessarily be a useful message as it is unlikely to contains all the information required by any particular receiving system.

Change Order Options

By default the RCPA SPIA-defined RCPA Preferred Term will be used to populate the HL7 OBR.4 Universal Service Identifier field, component OBR.4.2 Text. If RCPA Synonyms are available for specific tests, one of the RCPA Synonyms can be chosen from the list of RCPA Synonyms using a drop-down menu. If no drop-down menu is shown for the Test then no synonyms were defined. Table column "Effective Term" specified the Term that will be used in the message.

By default the HL7 OBR.15 Specimen Surce Name or Code field, component OBR.15.1 Text, will be populated with the only, or the first Specimen Source code from the list of Specimen Sources. If RCPA SPIA Specimen Source defines a list of Specimen Sources then another of the Specimen Sources can be chosen from the list of Specimen Sources using a drop-down menu. If no drop-down menu is shown for the Test then no alternative specimen sources were defined. Table column "Effective Source" specified the Specimen Source that will be used in the message.
